Responsible ownership policy
Last updated October 2026
Our approach
Caelum Capital makes long term control investments in consumer businesses. We believe that well governed companies which treat their people, customers, suppliers and communities fairly are more resilient and more valuable. Responsible ownership is therefore part of how we assess, own and build every business, not a separate exercise.
Before we invest
Every investment case includes a review of environmental, social and governance matters relevant to the business, including health and safety, labour standards, product quality and safety, environmental impact, supply chain risks, bribery and corruption, and data protection. Material findings are reflected in our decision, our legal documentation and the first year plan.
While we own a business
- Governance: an effective board with clear responsibilities, sound financial controls and regular reporting to shareholders.
- People: safe workplaces, fair pay, equal opportunity and investment in skills, with management teams supported and developed rather than replaced.
- Environment: efficient use of energy, water and packaging, and practical plans to reduce waste and emissions that also lower cost.
- Supply chain: responsible sourcing, supplier standards and a zero tolerance approach to modern slavery, bribery and corruption.
- Responsible marketing: where a business makes or sells alcohol, marketing that follows industry codes and promotes moderate consumption, and is never directed at under age audiences.
- Data and AI: artificial intelligence used transparently and under human oversight, with personal data protected and handled lawfully.
Oversight
The Managing Partner is responsible for this policy. Progress is reviewed with each portfolio company board at least once a year, and the policy itself is reviewed annually.
